Uninstalling Datto Workplace

This article describes how to remove the Datto Workplace agent software from your computer. It covers the uninstall procedure for a Windows computer, or for an Apple Mac computer. Following an agent uninstall from your computer, it is recommended that you remove reference to the uninstalled agent in Datto Workplace Online by carrying out a device recycle operation.

Prerequisites

Administrator permissions may be required for your computer. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

 

Uninstalling the Datto Workplace software from a Windows computer

The procedure to remove the Datto Workplace software from a Windows computer varies slightly depending on your version of Windows. To remove the Datto Workplace software from a Windows computer, first stop the sync application, and then uninstall the Datto Workplace software. Proceed as follows.

Stop the Workplace Sync application

  1. Click the Datto Workplace icon in your system tray and, from the menu options, click Quit.

This stops the Workplace Sync application.

Uninstall Datto Workplace software

  1. Go to the Windows Start menu. (For Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, right-click the window icon at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen to access Control Panel via a dropdown menu).
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. From the Control Panel, depending on your version of Windows, click either:
    1. Programs and Features (for Windows 8.1), or,
    2. Programs (for Windows 8), or,
    3. Add or Remove Programs (for Windows XP), or,
    4. Uninstall Programs (for Windows Vista/7).

A list of programs appears.

  1. From the list of programs, locate and select the Datto Workplace software program, and then do one of the following:
    1. For Windows Vista/7/8/8.1, click Uninstall, or,
    2. For Windows XP, click the Remove, or Change/Remove, tab to the right of the program name.

See example below for Windows 8.1.

  1. When prompted with the, Do you plan to re-install this software? option then, depending on whether you wish to reinstall Datto Workplace software later on this same computer or not, take one of the following actions.
    1. If a later reinstall is required then select Yes, to the question, Do you plan to re-install this software?. This will retain configuration and Project data for later use.
    2. If a later reinstall is not required then select No, to the question, Do you plan to re-install this software?. This will permanently remove all data.

The Datto Workplace software is removed from your computer.

 

Uninstalling the Datto Workplace software from an Apple Mac computer

To uninstall the Datto Workplace software from an Apple Mac computer, proceed as follows.

  1. From the top-level menu bar, click, Finder, then select, System Preferences.

The System Preferences folder opens.

  1. In the System Preferences folder, click the Datto Workplace icon.

The Datto Workplace summary page opens.

  1. On the menu bar at the top of the page, click, About.

The Desktop Agent summary page appears.

  1. Click, Uninstall.

  1. When prompted with the, Keep configuration and Projects, option then, depending on whether you wish to reinstall Datto Workplace software later or not, take one of the following actions.
    1. If a later reinstall is required then tick the, Keep configuration and Projects, checkbox. This will retain configuration and Project data for later use.
    2. If a later reinstall is not required then untick the, Keep configuration and Projects, checkbox. This will permanently remove all data.

The Datto Workplace software is removed from your computer.

 

Recycling a device

When a device is no longer in use then it may be removed, or recycled, from the list of devices protected by your Datto Workplace service.

Members may recycle devices within their own account.

Administrators may recycle devices from Team Members or other Administrators within the Team.
