Meet The Team: Rob Penfold
By Stuart Janicki • 29 May 2013
Rob has been part of our Technical Support Team since May 2010 and has previously worked for Danone's IT support team. Rob originates from South Africa and moved to the UK in 2001 with his parents.
How did you end up in the job?
Well I’ve always liked fixing things. When I was younger I would take things apart and put them back together again. I moved to the UK in 2001, I have always been into computers as we always had computers around the house when I was a child - from a very young age I’ve been playing with, breaking and fixing computers. Now it’s less of the breaking and more of the fixing.
What do you like about the company?
I like how ambitious it is. There is a real feeling throughout the company that we want to be the best out there. Whether that’s in the quality of the technology we sell or the level of customer support we provide. Everyone here is a somebody with a big personality I have a lot of friends here now.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the people I work with. The Support Team all get on really well together and we are a good unit – it helps that we all have similar interests. I also love solving problems with people's systems - especially the feeling you get after solving a particularly difficult one.
What are your hobbies?
I play cricket in Glos/Wilts league most Saturdays of the summer, race model cars, computers, play golf, cycling, running, going to the gym and ride motorbikes.
Can you tell us a random fact about anything?
In junior school back in South Africa where I grew up, I won the first IT award for the school, where they were trying to find the most IT literate pupil in the school.
I won the award as I showed the most intuition where I used the help, and hovered over the icons to work out what to do, the test was to format a document using MS Word (only just released). I was the only one to complete the test.
