EFM or Ethernet in the First Mile is a low-cost alternative to a fibre connectivity service. It gives you the same fast, dedicated bandwidth reserved for your business, but at a significantly lower cost. The bandwidth is also symmetrical which means that your upload and download speeds are identical, providing excellent support for cloud applications.
EFM makes use of the existing copper telephone lines used in pairs to deliver speeds of up to 20Mbps. It’s widely available and makes a great alternative where fibre services are not available or too expensive to install. A two pair service will give you up to 10Mbps and a four pair will give you up to 20Mbps depending on the length of the copper required.
EFM services are very fault tolerant because they consolidate a number of copper pairs into a single resilient Ethernet connection. If one of the pairs fail, the connection will continue to operate, but at a lower speed, making it suitable for business-critical cloud and VoIP applications.
Consistent and reliable symmetric upload/downloads speeds at a fraction of the cost of fibre leased lines. You won’t share your bandwidth with other business or residential users.
As EFM uses the existing copper lines in the telephone network, it is available to most businesses regardless of their location. Speeds will depend on the length of copper used to connect you.
EFM can be installed within 45 days – less than half of time of a fibre leased line. We can liaise with carriers on your behalf and provide all the hardware you need to get up and running.
Your EFM services will come with a business-grade SLA with guaranteed fix times. We also provide ongoing monitoring services with proactive support to identify issues faster and minimise disruption to your business.
